| Christmas break so far has consisted of one sweet day and two crappy days of laying in bed with the flu. The sweet day was Saturday, after hearing some good news Friday that I'm a stepuncle now. I went to the hospital Saturday to see Shanna and her baby, Carmelina. I've never seen a person so young before, just 1 day old. I was dearly reminded of the innocence a young child has. Later that night, I felt really tired at home and fell asleep around 7:00, and basically laid in bed for a long, long time after that. I feel well enough now to come to my stepdad's store and do what I can to help out. Hopefully, I will be all better soon and hang out with many sweet people. It's a beautiful thing to look forward to. For now, y'all have a great day. | | |
| God's gifts and blessings are so powerful. It's way too often that these things are taken for granted. People wait for and expect something big to smack us in the face, but we ignore all the small things that life so graciously hands out. Or we get comfortable with what we have, forgetting that it's natural for things to end. Once it's there and we have something, we don't appreciate it anymore. The grace of God lets us hold onto so many things that we don't deserve at all. We've all taken family, friends, our homes, our church, each day of our own lives for granted. In fact, we are rarely thankful and appreciative of them. Instead, we talk about whatever small bad sides we can find in these things, and ramble about them. How often do we complain about how much homework everyone has? There's a reason we have homework... we're at a college! It's a place to learn, to go to class, to aquire new skills, to build friendships. I constantly need to remind myself of this, and take in the small things each day brings me. We need to put ourselves in other people's situations. We are people who can walk to a cafeteria, scan a card and get all the food we want. We can breathe clean air, drink clean water, walk into any one of the many buildings on campus when we are cold, use all the electricity we want. To us, it's absurd to think of a man walking beside us pulling out a gun and shooting everyone, a bomb dropping on our heads, sometimes even getting chronic diseases is considered absurd. We really are gluttons, taking every bit of good life and keeping it to ourselves. Please don't dwell on what you might think are bad things about your family, friends, home or church. Even if there are bad things in them, let God use them to make you a better person. Don't complain to eachother about how terrible a friend might have been last night, appreciate all the little things friends do to encourage you. We should make sure each day that we have the fruit of the spirit: kindness, gentleness, self-control, peace, love, joy, goodness, faithfulness, and patience. | | |
